Major League Local Rules

1.  Pitching:

We will follow the pitch count rules we used last year as follows:
  • If a player pitches 61 or more pitches in a day, three (3) calendar days of rest must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 41 - 60 pitches in a day, two (2) calendar days of rest must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 21 - 40 pitches in a day, one (1) calendar day of rest must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 1-20 pitches in a day, no calendar day of rest is required before pitching again.
Note: A pitcher can finish pitching to a batter without having to add an extra days rest.

2.     Substitution rule: Minimum Play (2 innings and 1 at-bat).

After minimum play is met, you may have free substitutions.  The intent of the rule is to allow the “subs” to get more playing time.  This is not intended for managers to try to get an extra at-bat for starters (top players).  If a sub re-enters into a starter’s slot in the batting order, then, the starter would have to re-enter into his original position in the batting order.

3.    Injury rule:

  • Teams may carry only 10 players
  • Teams with only 9 players must use a call up after 2 games.
  • Teams playing with less than 9 players are required to take an out each time the 9th position in the batting order is reached during a game.
  • Teams may call up only 11 & 12 year old players that were eligible for the majors.  No 10 year olds!

4.    Pinch runners only for the catcher designated to catch the next inning.

5.  No slash (faking a bunt and then swinging away) allowed.

6.    No stealing signs by coaches or players.

7.    No head first slides except when going back to a base.

8.    No big barrel bats or metal cleats.

9.    Only 1 coach allowed outside the dugout to call pitches when the team is in the field.

10.     Time limit (2:00 hrs per game if Amy can make the schedule work.  Otherwise, 1:45 minutes).  I will get back to you after confirming with Amy.

The following rules are in place to ensure we get as many innings played as possible.

  • No infield warm-ups prior to game.
  • Umpires are to limit warm up pitches between innings.
  • Coaches can warm up the pitcher while catcher is getting dressed.
  • Coaches are encouraged to use pinch runners for catchers after 2 outs in an inning.
  • Coaches work with pitchers on how to hold runners on base without excessive throws over to the bases.

Lets play ball!
