11U Buckhead Bucks Finish Runner-Up in Dizzy Dean State Tournament

Buckhead’s 11U Bucks went 5-2 over five days in the 11U Sanctioned Dizzy Dean State Tournament to finish runner-up among 15 teams from across Georgia including five teams from our own District 4: Sandy Springs Storm, Sandy Springs Cyclones, Eastside Pride, NYO Rangers and Druid Hills Spartans.

The Bucks used solid pitching and defense in the tournament from the very start.  The Bucks beat East Cherokee 18-0 to win the opening game, and then defeated a tough Dade County team 7-4 to start out with two quick wins.  On Saturday night, the Bucks beat Sandy Plains 5-4 in eight innings to advance to the winner’s bracket finals with a 3-0 record.  The game was tied 0-0 after 4 innings, and then saw four lead changes over the next 4 innings with the game ending close to midnight.  After losing to Sandy Springs Storm in the winner’s bracket finals on Sunday afternoon, the Bucks beat Druid Hills 10-7 on Monday night to advance to the championship game needing to beat the Sandy Springs Storm in two games to win the state title.

In the championship game on Tuesday, the Bucks handed the Sandy Springs Storm their first loss of the tournament with a 10-8 win and forced a deciding final game in the nightcap.  The Bucks lost 4-7 in the finale ending a great run through the tournament.

The 11U Bucks finished a great summer season with a 19-10 record in five weeks of tournament play.   Great job to the players and coaches on a fun and exciting season!
