Majors and AAA Pitching Rules

2024 Majors and AAA Pitching Limits and Days of Rest

MAJORS

1-20 pitches – No days of rest required
21-35 pitches – 1 day of rest required
36-50 pitches – 2 days of rest required
51-65 pitches – 3 days of rest required

66-85 pitches – 4 days of rest required *

Note:  A pitcher can finish pitching to a batter without having to add an extra day of rest.

* Early Season Limit:  Until 4/7/2024, the limit is 65 pitches!  Beginning 4/8/2024, the maximum number of pitches a player may throw in a game is 85.


AAA LEAGUE

1-20 pitches – No days of rest required
21-35 pitches – 1 day of rest required
36-50 pitches – 2 days of rest required
51-65 pitches – 3 days of rest required
66-85 pitches – 4 days of rest required

AAA only:  In addition to pitch count limits, a player may pitch a maximum of 9 consecutive outs per game.
